NEWTOWN, Pa.- After an 0-10 start, Bucks women's basketball coach Andre Bright has been searching high and low for silver linings to show his players are having a positive impact on the program. In his search for those little silver linings he may have unearthed a golden nugget.
Bucks freshman forward Alena Kusnerick (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) leads a list of four players who appear on the NJCAA statistical rankings. Kusnerick currently ranks 5th in the country, averaging 3.6 blocks per game. "Alena has been a pleasant surprise for us," said Coach Bright. "She is very tenacious on the defensive end of the floor, and has become more aggressive in pursuing blocks in the last 4 or 5 games."
Kusnerick is also currently ranked 469th in rebounding, averaging 4.3 rebounds per game.
Among other Lady Centurions appearing in the national rankings are freshman guard Cara Coughlin (Warminster/Archbishop Wood) ranks in two categories, 1.7 assists per game (376th) and 1.4 steals per game (383rd); Freshman forward Korin Bradley (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) ranks 490th with 4.2 rebounds per game; Sophomore forward Kailie Mitchell ranks 434th in rebounding with 4.5 rebounds per game.
"I am truly happy with where we are at this point in our development as a program," said Coach Bright. "Individually we're beginning to see some fruits from our labor. But the goal is to see continue to get better, and translate those individual successes into team success."
